EDF has organized an initial auction aimed at alternative electricity suppliers in France, covering basic electricity supply contracts, for a period of up to 15 years. This auction is in accordance with the decision of the French Competition Council.

EDF said that, overall, 12 companies took part in this initial auction which allowed five companies to purchase the 500MW proposed by EDF.

This initiative aims to contribute to the development of competition in the small business and residential client market. The next auction will be organized in the second half of 2008, according to EDF.
