Oi Wins Auction for 2G Licenses

Brazilian mobile operator Oi picked up two 2G spectrum licenses for localities in São Paulo state on Thursday in the repeat of an auction originally held in September, telecoms regulator Anatel said.

Oi paid 112mn reais (US$63.5mn) for the two licenses, surpassing the minimum asking price of 43.5mn reais by 156%.

Oi paid 110mn reais for lot one covering an area called greater São Paulo, 163% over the asking price of 42mn reais, and 1.6mn reais for lot two that covers northern São Paulo, 1.02% over the minimum price of 1.57mn reais.

Oi beat Unicel to win both licenses.
