Telefonica SA, the biggest fixed line telephonephone company in Latin America, won the bidding for the rights to a wireless telephone frequency in Peru, part of a government plan to increase competition and service in the Andean nation.

Telefonica will use the airwaves to serve 700,000 new fixed lines nationwide, boosting Peru’s telephone coverage by a quarter, the country’s investment-promotion agency Proinversion said today in Lima.
