China is considering allowing foreign governments to issue yuan-denominated bonds on the domestic markets, Finance Minister Xie Xuren said in a report carried by the official Xinhua news agency.

‘We are actively doing research on bond issues by foreign governments in China,’ Xie was quoted as saying at the first China-Japan economic dialogue here.

Xie said China has committed to opening up its domestic bond market, without elaborating.

The International Financial Corp and the Asian Development Bank were the first multilateral financial institutions to win approval from China’s cabinet to issue such bonds in 2005.
