The government will auction in late October or early November the radio spectrum for mobile services based on the CDMA2000 standard, the Office of the Telecommunications Authority (OFTA) said.

The licence will have reserve price of 76 mln hkd, it said.

The auction will be the second in Hong Kong for assignment of radio spectrum since the auction of the radio spectrum for 3G mobile services in September 2001.

‘CDMA2000 is one of the main mobile communications standards in the world capable of delivering high speed data services. There are more than 350 million mobile subscribers in 85 economies, including 39 million on the Mainland, adopting this standard,’ an OFTA spokesman said.

The OFTA will issue one licence for the CDMA2000 services which will be valid for a period of 15 years starting November 20 next year.
